I know I’m tired of hearing myself say sorry. I’m sorry!!My life right now is so full of stress,I don’t even understand myself again.
I’m writing this at nearly midnight because I promised myself I’d start blogging again.I started this as a way to keep track of my hair growth, regimen, products and basically everything hair related,so I feel like I’ve been slacking plenty.
Anyhoo….I’ll try to be better.I should probably schedule posts or something.
So in between the last time I’ve been here and now, I’ve coloured my hair twice.I like to deceive myself that I’m some sort of rebel, but really it was either dye or cut, and I’m trying to get some length so I can get locs later this year.
I dyed more recently 2 weeks ago,so maybe I should just talk about that?I used Creme of Nature dye in Intensive Red.

I love Creme of Nature’s products because they generally have hydrolized wheat protein and my hair can never get enough protein(for some reason). I bought this box on a whim, I went into a shop and picked it  at random. The original plan was to get a touchup of the colour I used the first time  (Creme of Nature in Red Copper) but I haven’t seen it anywhere except Casabella and mans are too broke for Casabella rn.
Hair Details: It’s a mix.4a/3 something in front,4c in the middle, some 4b behind, and 2(that’s straight hair, yes?) sprinkled in just for general laughs.
High porosity,low density, fine hair.
I applied it to my hair for 45 minutes (it says 30 minutes on the box but I left it on longer for the colour to take)
I don’t have a picture of how it looked I was done dying it,because I did a deep condition immediately after and got twist extensions.
Basically ,I’m happy with the colour (for now ).I haven’t really gotten to see it because it’s been put away,so I’m hoping the love stays strong.
I’m sorry the post is not really detailed, this is just me dipping my toe back in the pool. I’ll anwer any questions ,and I promise to put up more posts.

PS: It’s soooo past my bedtime.I’ll be such a mess at work tomorrow 😥

Hey peoples…so I had a post in my drafts detailing all the hair journey I’ve been on since I went AWOL,but apparently my phone had a different idea.My memory card (finally) gave up on me and I lost all my pictures 😦
I went off to write exams, and a combination of recovering from the stress involved, wordpress not cooperating on my phone and plain old laziness have kept me off the ol’ blog.Unfortunately,I don’t have any pictures of the plenty hair gist :(. This memory card crash is paining me ehn!I’ve had it for nearly 6years,I guess its old age is showing.Anyway, this is me checking in.
PS: Who missed me?

*first time using the wordpress mobile app,so forgive any weird stuff.thanks*

So I decided to loosen my kinky twists(finally). It took me about 6hours,went to bed around 2am :(.My hair had matted at the roots&had started to loc sef,me and my weird dada hair..The plan was to loosen the hair in sections and detangle as I went along, but I got tired. So what I did was loosen everything, then pre-poo.
A pre-poo is a pre-shampoo oil treatment, you put oil in your hair overnight/as long as you want then wash it out.I used my oil mix(coconut, castor, olive&amla oils)liberally, put a nylon bag over my hair then my shower cap.I left it on overnight.
In the morning my hair was soft and a little dampish. The shed hair was out of this world though, there was so much of it in my hair.So I finger detangled to get most of the hair out. This was super easy, because my hair was really soft(not normal behaviour from my hair had been in the kinky twist extensions for a month,so a co-wash was out of it.
I dampened my hair with water, and then poured a little vinegar on it.this loosened my curls up,making it easier to get the rest of the hair out. Then I shampooed and conditioned.
Since I was coming out of a long term protective style,I felt my hair needed tlc,so I deep conditioned with: honey, some conditioner, olive oil and ORS carrot oil.I put a shower cap on my hair again&left it on for 2hours.Since there wasn’t any protein in my mix,I did a tea rinse to wash the conditioner out.
*whew*basically took me two days to wash my hair.
Results: I lost very little hair, compared to taking a shortcut. Also,my hair was incredibly moisturized.

So I wrote plenty story and didn’t save, then NEPA did their usual magic and now it’s gone 😦 Lesson learnt: always save!
Anyway…Nse Ikpe-Etim is my newest hair crush. She’s a Nigerian actress, and she’s natural. I love her courage to wear natural hair everywhere and anywhere. She regularly wears her natural hair to events and award shows, and she looks smashing every.single.time. Her growth is crazy, especially considering she isn’t up to 2 years natural (if I’m wrong please let me know in the comments!). Her density *wipes drool* that hair is full!!!
Nse Ikpe-Etim recently got married to Mr Clifford Sule, her first love. That’s all sorts of romantic *insert hopeless romantic sigh*.She rocked her natural hair in a fro-hawk.I don’t even know any naturals that can rock their natural hair for their wedding(Berry Dakara of African Naturalistas has indicated she will though)
Hopefully,I’ll develop her courage and thick skin soon.Frankly, I’m tired of people acting like my hair grows out of their skulls.

I’ve been meaning to do a post on ACV for ages, just read a post over at that reminded me (check out her blog,it’s nice).
This is a product that a lot of naturals swear by, because of it’s versatility and all-round usefulness.Personally,I’m practically lost without my apple cider. I’ll try to explain in detail just how I use it

  • DETANGLING : I discovered this by mistake. I decided to do an ACV rinse, but in my hurry to wash my hair and get out of the bathroom I poured the ACV on my hair before the shampoo. My curl immediately felt looser and I could easily pass my fingers through. Best day of my What I do is: wet my hair with water, then pour a little bit of vinegar on it. I massage it into my hair, finger detangling  along the way. If I feel I need to use a comb, then I do. By this point my hair is super soft and tangle-free. Also, I don’t lose as much hair as when I detangle with conditioner.
  • CO-WASH : I try to wash my hair with shampoo only once a week. This is because shampoo is drying and I have enough problems trying to keep my hair moisturized as it is. A non-sulfate shampoo is better, but I don’t see any point in getting one since I barely use shampoo anyway. The rest of the time I co-wash (wash with conditioner). However, since conditioner doesn’t have as much cleansing power as shampoo, hair can be left feeling dirty, grimy and itchy. To combat this, I add ACV to my conditioner. I pour a bit of vinegar in my conditioner bottle and just shake it in. I wet my hair, put a bit of conditioner, massage and wash it out.
  • FACIAL TONER : I used to get pimples a lot when I was younger, but they mostly disappeared when I got into the university. So imagine how bad I felt when I noticed I was getting major outbreaks again :(.  From prior experience, I know that facial cleansers and all don’t work for me. The longest they work is one week, and then I’m back to square one. I tried to change my diet and incorporated my acv into my facial cleansing routine. After washing my face at night, I pour a little in my hand and just rub it on my damp face (avoid the eyes, it stings like crazy). I’ve definitely noticed a difference.
  • DIET DRINK : I’ve recently gained A LOT of weight, as in I’ve moved from a size 7 to nearly a size 10. I blame it on my change of environment though. In my waka waka round the web, I saw different sites talking about acv as a weight loss/weight management product. All you do is mix acv in water and drink it about 20 minutes before every meal/snack. Apparently it helps the body metabolize food and prevents it from using all the fat. I didn’t care about the medical jargon, all was concerned about were the claims. I tried it for a couple of days, then my acv finished :(. I live in the randomest area of lagos, so I haven’t been able to get ACV. Hopefully, I’ll go to shoprite during the week and get a bottle.
  • HAIR RINSE/PH BALANCING : Using too many products on your hair can cause buildup and basically suffocate your scalp. Also, all the products with different things in them can affect your hair’s ph balance. To restore my hair to normal, I do an ACV  rinse after I wash my hair. I just pour a little bit of ACV on my wet hair an massage for about 5 minutes. No need to rinse, the smell fades.
I  found helpful, so if you need more ways to use ACV check it out.
  •  Be warned, vinegar has a very strong smell. Don’t worry about it though, the smell fades after about 5 minutes or less. Also, be careful not to let it get in your eyes. It smarts ( I know this from personal experience)

Leave a comment and let me know how you use apple cider vinegar.

Now that we’ve gotten that out of the way… Chimamanda Ngozi Adichie is a Nigerian born writer. I’ve loved her since I read “Purple Hibiscus“, her first book which was nominated for the Orange Prize for
Literature. If you’ve never read any of her books, this is the best one to start with. The next book was ‘Half of a Yellow Sun” which deals with the Nigerian civil war (a topic which,in my opinion, Nigeria tries to hide under the carpet), followed by “The Thing Around Your Neck“, a collection of short stories mostly dealing with the immigrant experience. Her third full length novel “Americanah” was recently released and I got a signed copy ^_^
Chimamanda is natural, and has been very vocal about natural hair lately. Americanah talks a lot about natural hair, from styling it for interviews (the main female character was told she wouldn’t get a job if she went with her natural hair) to getting a good hair stylist.
She’s all round awesome 🙂
that afro ❤

Anybody that follows me on twitter knows I’m a bonafide Janelle Monae groupie. From her hair to her style, and isn’t she sooo beautiful???! I love the androgynous style to bits. Covergirl obviously agrees as she’s now the face of Covergirl and sister s werking it!

Who’s seen the video for Q.U.E.E.N? She and Erykah Badu (another natural hair icon) tore that video to pieces…if you haven’t seen it,really, what are you waiting for???Because I’m all sorts of nice, here’s the video 🙂

She has a new song out, titled “dance apocalyptic” and her hair’s out of her signature pompadour..that hair is lonnnnggggg! If I didn’t have a hair crush before, I have one now for sure.
